Due to concerns within the sheep breeding industry regarding there being no quality assurance controls in place for eye muscle scanners, the New Zealand Sheepbreeders' Association, along with Lincoln University, supported and funded by Meat & Wool Nz, invited all eye muscle scanners to attend two workshops at Lincoln University.

The Scanners eye muscled 25 sheep twice, with their results being tabulated and analysed by Lincoln University using a formula developed following the first workshop.  Only subject to their figures lying within the criteria established, was their accreditation approved.
